Christophe Lacroix

Professor Emeritus at the Department of Health Sciences and Food Biotechnology at ETH Zurich and a world-leading expert in food biotechnology and the production of beneficial microbes. Founder and member of the Board of Directors and the Scientific Advisory Board of PharmaBiome AG, specializing in the isolation, functional characterization, and production of gut microbe-based products for human therapy.

Christophe Lacroix, Full Professor of Food Biotechnology at ETH Zurich since 2002, is a leading figure in microbial biotechnology. His research portfolio encompasses innovative bioprocessing, the functional role of microorganisms in health, and the modeling of the gut microbiome. He is widely recognized for his work on immobilized cell technologies, downstream processing technologies for single strain and consortia, advanced intestinal fermentation models (notably the PolyFermS platform), and natural antimicrobial systems for food and intestinal bioprotection. With a long and accomplished record of translational research in academia and in collaboration with food and biotech industries, Prof. Lacroix has successfully applied his scientific insights. A testament to this impact, he is the Founder and a member of both the Board of Directors and the Scientific Advisory Board of PharmaBiome AG, an ETH spinoff that translates gut microbiome research into novel human therapeutics.
