Microbiomes Solutions Innovation Award (MSIA)

Microbiomes Solutions symposium is looking at showcasing innovative products and processes in the field of food, agriculture, environment and health, and wishes to recognize the efforts made by industry, innovators and researchers in finding solutions to bottlenecks currently limiting or slowing down innovation by awarding those innovations which can inspire the entire community.
The MS Innovation Award (MSIA) welcomes applications on :

  • New bioprocess/ Synthetic biology
  • New microbial products (food, pharma, environment...)
  • New product targeting microbiomes
  • New data processing

MSIA application submission starts on June the 19th, 2025 and ends on September 1st 2025

ELEGIBILITY
Application for the MSIA is open to every registered participant of the Microbiomes Solutions Symposium and applications must be made through the dedicated application form available on the event website. To be eligible for MSIA, the innovation presented must be an actual marketable product or process, close to being launched on the market or already marketed for less than 2 years. Research projects are eligible only if the prototyping/pilot phase has been successful.
Also, the innovation presented must be fully able to reach markets according to EU legislation and regulatory frameworks.

EVALUATION
Evaluation of the applications will be performed by a committee composed of the few members of Microbiomes Solutions scientific committees.

Evaluation will be based on the following criteria (in order of importance – counting from 5 to 1 point(s) respectively):

  • Innovation description : Clarity and Precision; the description should be easy to understand. The innovation should be explained in a concise and structured manner.
  • Impact : What is the need addressed by the innovation, and how does the innovation fulfill/ responds to this need
  • Added value :  How valuable is the product/innovation presented in differentiating from current standards
  • Feasibility:  What are the scientific, technological or regulatory obstacles encountered (the ones mastered and the ones still pending)
  • Sustainability : How effective is the innovation in improving sustainability
  • Safety : Does the innovation significantly improve safety without introducing new risks
  • Market Readiness/Scalability : What is the level of maturity of the innovation. How close from the market is the innovation? Is the product/process scalable at industrial level. What is the type and size of market envisaged for the innovation.
  • Valorizing Partnership:  Did the development involve public/private collaboration

The Evaluating committee reserves itself the right to contact the applicant(s) and ask additional questions to collect the necessary information needed for their evaluation.
